NEW NATURAL RESERVE AND PARK PROJECTED FOR THE RIVIERA MAYA

February, 2023

The Mexican president has announced that the entrepreneur and hotelier Julio Berdegué, in his will, has bequeathed 500 acres of land in Riviera Maya for the creation of a new natural reserve and park.

In his daily morning conference, the president said that Berdegué had asked his children for 500 acres of his property in Riviera Maya, which he acquired from the Hotel Cid when the area began to be developed, to be donated for conservation and use as a natural park.

This new park will be part of the complementary works surrounding the 5th stretch of the new Maya Train, which will travel from Cancun to Playa del Carmen. The train will first be tested in July 2023, in the stretches between Mérica and Cancun, and possibly Tulum and Escárcega.

The preservation of these 500 acres of mangrove and stunning natural coast, as well as their opening as a natural park for all to enjoy, will surely make for a great addition to Riviera Maya’s tourist offerings.
