CANCUN BREAKS RECORDS WITH 200 NEW HOTELS IN THE LAST 3 YEARS!

February, 2023

The Mexican state of Quintana Roo has added to its hotel infrastructure no less than 200 new hotels in the last three years — a world record when comparing with other destinations of similar size and population.

At the start of 2021, Quintana Roo had 114,947 hotel rooms and, by the end of that same year, that number had increased to 118,772. In the end of year update for 2022, 130,000 hotel rooms were reported, increasing from 126,000 in October 2022.

Despite this, Cancun shows no signs of suffering from a lack of demand in relation to the abundance of rooms — the popular Caribbean destination closed out 2022 with better-than-average occupancy in its hotels, even with the hurdle of cancelled flights due to the heavy snowstorms that affected large parts of the continental US.

The growth in Cancun’s hotel infrastructure, along with its consistently high occupancy numbers, confirm that it continues to be one of the world’s most beloved tropical destinations, and rightfully so — visiting Cancun and seeing firsthand its turquoise waters and the warm welcoming spirit of the people of Quintana Roo proves to be an unforgettable experience for all who come here!
