NEW AIRLINE TO BEGIN OPERATIONS IN MEXICO WITH 10 AIRCRAFTS

September, 2023

The Mexican Secretary of Defense (Sedena), Luis Crescencio Sandoval, has announced details regarding the new Mexicana de Aviación airline, which will begin operating in 2023 with 10 crafts, to be delivered in the months of September and October.

The agreement reached for the renewed operation of Mexicana will contribute to increasing connectivity of various aerial services, in the areas of both passenger and cargo transportation. 10 new Boeing 737-800 crafts will be available to Mexicana, starting with the delivery of three aircrafts on September 30th, and a further seven a month later on October 30th.

The Secretary announced that Mexicana de Aviación will be headquartered in two locations. The main HQ will be located at the former hacienda of Santa Lucía, close to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport. In addition, the airline will have an office in the vicinity of the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto airport in Tulum, Quintana Roo.

The cost of tickets through the new airline is expected to be on average 18-20% lower than its competitors, due in part to the government subsidies provided for the operation of the airline and some of the airports it will fly to and from. For the same reason, service is expected to be of a high standard in both service and punctuality.

The launch of Mexicana de Aviación will generate 209 new jobs, adding at least 745 additional employees before the start of operations.
