CHAPULTEPEC, THE LUNG OF THE METROPOLIS

JANUARY 1, 2020

Take a morning or afternoon to explore the vast Chapultepec Forest. Residents of Mexico City love Chapultepec. Some of the most traditional districts converge here, in the very heart of the city. It is the place to go on a family walk, the stage of lovers, and the perfect park for running, bike riding or just walking the dog. Chapultepec is one of the most essential places of life in the capital city.

Measuring 686 hectares, Chapultepec is considered the city’s lung. The forest was planted in pre-Hispanic times on Chapulín Hill, which the Mexicas considered sacred. There are still centuries-old cypresses here, like the Montezuma ahuehuete. Join the ambiance and walk its several kilometres of trails, walk to the Lake House, go on a boat ride, buy snacks from one of the stalls, laugh at the street performers, visit the Castle, the Zoo, the botanical gardens, the surrounding museums, or just sit in the sun on a bench and enjoy a good book. You can watch the world go by, or take a quiet moment away from the hustle of the big city.
