Best Places in Mexico to Spend Every Season

November 08, 2021

No matter what time of the year it is, Mexico has the best places to spend every season of the year… in other words ‘There is a destination for every season and a season for every destination'.

Winter Season on the beach

Winter is one of the most popular seasons for traveling to the main beach cities in Mexico, like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos.

High season in these locations runs from approximately December to April. This is the time of year when most tourists fly away from cold, snowy cities in the United States and Canada, in search of sunny weather and warm sandy shores.

Skies are clear with little to no rain during the winter months, and temperatures are perfect, ranging the mid-70s to mid-80s during the day and upper 50s to 60s at night.

The combination of perfect weather and plenty of activities to take advantage of make for wonderful vacations in any beach destination in Mexico, and that is why winter is such a popular time of year to visit.

However, the other seasons of the year are just as beautiful in Mexico, and each has a personality all its own.

Spring in Cancun

Spring time is a great time to visit Cancun. In the spring, you can soak up the sun and take advantage of Cancun’s average year-round temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Cancun is not too humid in the spring, so it’s a nice time to visit if you are looking for warmth without humidity.

Many tropical flowers and fruits bloom and ripen in the spring, including orchids, plumeria, mahogany, mangos, plums, guava, papaya, passion fruit and dragon fruit. You can find these growing wild and cultivated for commercial use throughout the region.

An especially interesting tree to look for in the spring is the Flame of the Forest tree, with its stunning bright red flowers. This tree is also sometimes called an African Tulip tree. When you see one, you will know it, because the trees are large and completely full of large, bright red blooms.

A delicious and exotic fruit to look for is mamey fruit. It has brown skin and orange flesh, and it is very sweet, with a soft, creamy texture. Grocery stores and street vendors alike sell it, often cut open, exposing the bright orange interior.

There are usually many spring festivals in Cancun to look forward to including an international fishing tournament and a hot air balloon festival.

Summer in Los Cabos

Los Cabos has perfect weather in the summer, with average temperatures in the 90s for the daily highs, and in the 70s for the daily lows.

It is a wonderful destination to visit during the summer months of June, July and August because it is located in a dry climate with relatively low humidity.

While other beach destinations in Mexico such as Cancun and Puerto Vallarta are located in tropical climates that are humid during the summer months, Los Cabos doesn’t have the same humidity factor.

So if you’re looking for summer temperatures that can’t be beat, Los Cabos is the place for you!

Summer in Los Cabos is also great because the high season is over, and traffic from tourism is lower, but the water is warm enough for swimming comfortably.

All of these factors together make summer the perfect season to visit Los Cabos.

Fall days in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta is a great destination to visit in the fall. All tropical destinations have rainy seasons, and Puerto Vallarta is no exception, but Vallarta’s rainy season is fairly mild when compared to some other destinations.

The rainy season in Puerto Vallarta runs approximately June through October. Some people may think that it rains all day every day, but this is not the case!

It’s best to do your sightseeing, tours, and shopping in the morning and be home to watch the rain from the comfort of your balcony in the evenings. The rainstorms are beautiful to watch, often including dramatic lightning shows over the Bay of Banderas. Photographers can get some amazing shots from the comfort of a hotel balcony.

Since the fall is low season in Puerto Vallarta, you can expect fewer tourists in town and you can often find great deals on accommodation, tours and activities, especially in September.

In addition, there are many fun Mexican holidays to celebrate in the fall, such as Mexican Independence Day (September 16), Halloween (October 31) and Day of the Dead (November 2).
